When I remember my hair as a kid, I remember PCJ, Just for me and Dark and lovely kids relaxers. I remember Aunty Bawo's salon, Mama Mariam and The salon Downtown. As far as I remember, I don't remember ever seeing my natural hair all poofy and "nappy", the only thing I knew was that when my mum says there's undergrowth, its time to pick up my salon kit.

It wasn't until the 30th of April in 2010 when I decided to call up my friend and beg her to take off my weave and relax my hair till I got an idea of what it would be like to go natural. I took the picture above after my weave had gone off, because I was just amazed.

I saw how beautiful and poofy my hair was and honestly I wanted it to stay that way but I couldn't send my friend back home after making her come to my residence so I ended up perming my hair that day.

(funny how I had this unhappy look in my webcam pic)

But ever since I saw the result of 9 months without perm, I never stop wondering what could have been. So in february 2011 my close friend Adora and I decided we would go natural together. Although my last perm was in January and my friend recently did the big chop in April, I am currently still wearing a weave. well, mostly because perms have done so much damage to my front hair and as I like to say, I am "cultivating" it at the moment. 2 months of Dr Miracle's Temple and Nape product worked really well for me and now I'm adding doo gro to thicken it as well along with Nature Bounty Super B-Complex (with folic acid and Biotin).

I started taking pictures when I started Dr Miracle so I could share results but I kind of accidentally deleted them. Hopefully this time next year by God's grace, I would be proudly wearing my fro and hopefully suffer no more thinning hair.

For Coloured Girls.... My stuff

I watched the movie `For Coloured Gilrs today. I loved it, it was very inspiring.
This is my favourite poem from the movie.
Hope you like it too

somebody almost walked off with all of my stuff
not my poems or a dance i gave up in the street
but somebody almost walked off with all of my stuff

like a kleptomaniac workin hard & forgettin while stealin
this is mine/this aint your stuff/
now why don’t you put me back & let me hang out in my own self

somebody almost walked off with all of my stuff
& didn’t care enuf to send a note home sayin
i was late for my solo conversation
or two sizes to small for my own tacky skirts

what can anybody do wit somethin of no value on
a open market/ did you getta dime for my things/
hey man/ where are you goin with all of my stuff/
to ohh & ahh about/ daddy/ i gotta mainline number
from my own stuff/ now wontcha put me back/ & let
me play this duet/ with silver ring in my nose/
honest to god/

somebody almost run off with all of my stuff/
& i didnt bring anythin but the kick & sway of it
the perfect butt for my man & none of it is theirs
this is mine/ now take ‘her own things’/ that’s my name
now give me my stuff/ i see ya hidin my laugh/ & how i
am it with my legs open sometimes/ to give my crouch
some sunlight/ & there goes my love, my toes, my chewed
up finger nails/ niggah/ with the curls in your hair/
mr. louisiana hot link/

i want my stuff back/
my rhytums & my voice/ open my mouth/ & let me talk ya
outta/ throwin my stuff in the sewar/ this is some delicate
leg & whimsical kiss/ i gotta have to give to my choice/
without you runnin off with all of my stuff/
now you cant have me less i give me away/ & i waz
doin all that/ til ya run off on a good thing/

who is this you left me with/ some simple bitch
widda bad attitude/ i wants my things/
i want my arm with the hot iron scar/ & my leg with the
flea bite/ i want my calloused feet & quik language back
in my mouth/ fried plantains/ pineapple pear juice/
sun-ra & joseph & jules/ i want my own things/ how i lived them/
& give me my memories/ how i waz when i waz there/
you cant have them or do nothin with them/

stealin my stuff from me/ dont make it yours/ makes it stolen/
somebody almost run off with all of my stuff/ & i waz standin
there/ lookin at myself/ the whole time
& it waznt a spirit took my stuff/ waz a man whose
ego walked round like Rodan’s shadow/ waz a man faster
than my innocence/

waz a lover/ i made too much
room for/ almost run off with all of my stuff/
& i didnt know i’d give it up so quik/ & the one runnin wit it/
don’t know he got it/ & i’m shoutin this is mine/ & he dont
know he got it/ my stuff is the anonymous ripped off treasure
 of the year/

did you know somebody almost got away with me/
me in a plastic bag under their arm/ me
danglin on a string of personal carelessness/ i’m spattered wit
 mud & city rain/ & no i didnt get a chance to take a douche/
hey man/ this is not your perogative/ i gotta have me in my
pocket/ to get round like a good woman should/ & make the poem
in the pot or the chicken in the dance/

what i got to do/
i gotta get my stuff to do it to/
why dont ya find your own things/ & leave this package
of me for my destiny/ what ya got to get from me/
i’ll give it to ya/ yeh/ i’ll give it to ya/
round 5:00 in the winter/ when the sky is blue-red/
& Dew City is gettin pressed/ if it’s really my stuff/
ya gotta give it to me/ if ya really want it/ i’m
the only one/ can handle it

Interesting, Inspiring Quotes

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It's not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others." -Coach Carter (2005)

"When we step on the floor every second that clock is ticking we are pedal to the metal, we run the ball we pressure the ball and most importantly we control the tempo of the game, we make them play Richmond Oiler ball." -Coach Carter (2005)

you can see the peson you love better when your eyes are closed." -Ya Shim Maan Maan

"THE MOST IMPORTANT thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well." -Olympic Creed

America's Next Top Model: My favorite is gone, Alasia

I recently started watching ANTM out of boredom and then after a while, I started to like it. from the beginning of cycle 14, I choose Alasia as my favorite although she was kinda noisy and I really hate noisy people, but well she is young and full of life so can't blame her.

From when she steped up on the plates, I figured this girl had potential, focus and was dedicated. I'm really sad she had to leave New Zealand and head back home. For the fact she was an amarteur and made it this far, I give her props. She has some amazing pictures and I really hope she gets to work in the fashion industry soon.

I also like how ANTM opened her eyes to new things. Yes she was naive but she was willing to learn and open to new experiences.

I love you Alasia and I really hope one day you would made it really far and look at ANTM as just a pathway to greatness. you would definitely go from zero to hero.
God bless xXx
